World Food Programme: Malnutrition Among Women and Children in Afghanistan Has Reached Alarming Levels

The World Food Programme (WFP) has warned that malnutrition rates in Afghanistan - particularly among women and children - have risen to alarming levels, and that with winter approaching, the risk of this crisis worsening is greater than ever.

According to AnsarPress, the WFP stated that malnutrition is increasing rapidly across Afghanistan, with women and children being the most severely affected.

In a statement issued on Monday, November 10, the organization warned that as winter sets in, the country could witness a sharp rise in undernourishment and hunger cases.

For the first time in decades, the WFP said it may not be able to fully implement its winter relief operations in Afghanistan due to funding shortages and logistical constraints.

The agency described the current situation as "a preventable crisis" and stressed that immediate and coordinated international support is essential to save thousands of Afghan lives.

Last month, the WFP had already warned of the worsening hunger and malnutrition crisis, emphasizing the urgent need for emergency assistance to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe during the winter months.

According to the organization, any delay in delivering aid could leave millions of Afghan children and families at risk of severe hunger and acute malnutrition, further endangering an already fragile population.
