Iran`s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf says the United States must face up to the legal and political consequences of its deadly act of aggression against the Islamic Republic earlier this year.

He made the remarks during an open session of Parliament on Sunday, three days after US President Donald Trump acknowledged that he was "very much in charge of" June`s illegal Israeli-American assault against Iran.

"Following the US president`s explicit admission of direct responsibility in the Zionist regime`s aggression against Iran-which constitutes a blatant violation of international law, the United Nations Charter, and our national sovereignty-I, on behalf of the noble and honorable people of Iran, strongly condemn this heinous act," he said.

"I declare that, under international law, the US government must accept the legal, political, and military consequences of this blatant aggression, which has led to the martyrdom of many of our citizens."

Qalibaf also warned that the Iranian nation stands united and firm in the face of any threat, and that it will hold aggressors accountable for their acts.

Israel launched the unprovoked aggression against Iran on June 13, triggering a 12-day war that killed at least 1,064 people in the country, including military commanders, nuclear scientists, and civilians.

The United States also entered the war by bombing three Iranian nuclear sites. In response, the Iranian Armed Forces targeted strategic sites across the occupied territories as well as the Al-Udeid air base in Qatar, the largest American military base in West Asia.

On June 24, Iran, through its successful retaliatory operations against both the Israeli regime and the US, managed to impose a halt to the terrorist aggression.

Qalibaf hopes for brighter future for Iran, Pakistan

Elsewhere in his comments, the top legislator said that his visit to Pakistan earlier this week was aimed at thanking Islamabad for its support for Tehran and strengthening economic, cultural, and security ties between the two neighboring countries.

He further emphasized Pakistan`s strategic importance to Iran, citing deep cultural commonalities and significant opportunities for security and defense cooperation.

Pakistan`s geographical position could serve as a bridge connecting Iran to East Asia and beyond, he pointed out.

Meanwhile, the Iranian Parliament speaker said that during his trip, he discussed with Pakistani officials a range of issues, including increasing bilateral trade to $10 billion, facilitating barter trade, finalizing a free trade process, developing joint border markets, enhancing border security, and planning for trilateral cooperation with China.

Describing his visit to Pakistan as a major step toward bolstering Iran-Pakistan unity, Qalibaf expressed hope for a brighter future for both nations through joint efforts.

He also extended special gratitude to the Pakistani people for their warm and enthusiastic welcome to the Iranian delegation, noting that it reflects deep affection and brotherhood between the two nations.
