United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has expressed "deep concern" over ongoing Israeli violations of the fragile ceasefire in the besieged Gaza Strip.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the Second World Summit for Social Development in Doha on Tuesday, Guterres said he is "deeply concerned about the continued violations of the ceasefire in Gaza."

"They must stop, and all parties must abide by the decisions of the first phase of the peace agreement," the UN chief stated.

He also called for linking Gaza and the West Bank, adding that any force deployed in Gaza must have a UN mandate.

"We are actively involved in ensuring that aid provided to the residents of the Gaza Strip is increased. We strongly support the need for the ceasefire agreement in Gaza to hold and the need to link Gaza and the West Bank," Guterres stated.

Despite the ceasefire brokered by the US, Israeli attacks on Gaza have continued, killing dozens of Palestinians.

In the latest development, a Palestinian was killed in an Israeli attack in Jabalia, north of the besieged strip.

Israeli forces also shelled areas north-east of Al-Bureij camp in the central Gaza with artillery. The Palestinian Information Center said that "Israeli occupation artillery is shelling the eastern areas of the Shuja`iyya and Tuffah neighborhoods, east of Gaza City."

Last week, Israeli attacks across Gaza killed more than 100 people, including 46 children.

The UN chief further called for an end to decades-long Israeli occupation and stressed the Palestinian people`s right to self-determination.

"Let`s not forget the need to establish a credible political path towards ending the occupation."

The remarks come as the UN secretary general`s deputy spokesperson confirmed that 81 percent of the besieged region`s structures have suffered destruction.

Israel`s two-year-long genocidal war on Gaza has killed over 68,800 Palestinians, leaving nearly 170,700 others injured.
