Poll: 77% of Americans say inflation personally affecting them, 57% blame Biden
Over three-quarters of Americans - 77 percent - say inflation is affecting their lives and a clear majority - 57 percent - blame US President Joe Biden, according to a new Yahoo News/YouGov poll. The survey conducted from Nov. 17 to 19 also found that more of the respondents selected inflation as the most important issue facing America than any other issues, including Covid-19. Only 18 percent say the Democratic president is doing enough to address it. The results show in part why Bidens overall approval rating has steadily fallen to 43 percent in recent months while his disapproval rating has gone up to 52 percent and why his approval rating is even lower (40 percent) in terms of his performance in economy. The poll also shows that 51 percent of Americans say they are concerned that they wont be able to afford what they need during the holidays due to inflation, while 45 percent say they are worried they wont be able to get what they need because of shortages. Since last October, overall prices have risen 6.2 percent amid supply-chain bottlenecks and sky-high demand for goods - the fastest yearly pace in over 30 years. In a speech Tuesday, Biden announced plans to release 50 million barrels from the countrys strategic petroleum reserve to rein in the price of fuel gasoline stations back. Weve made historic progress over the last 10 months, Biden said, pointing to the 5.6 million jobs added to the economy since he took office in January. But disruptions related to the pandemic have caused challenges in our supply chain, which have sparked concern about shortages and contributed to higher prices. The fact is, we always get through those spikes. Were going to get through this one, and hopefully faster, Biden said. But it doesnt mean we should just stand by idly and wait for prices to drop on their own. Analysts attribute the decline in Bidens standing with US voters to inflation rates not seen in decades, record illegal migration, the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan and his inability to pass his agenda in Congress.
