Echoing QAnon forums, Michael Flynn appears to suggest Myanmar-style coup should happen in United States.

Donald Trump�s former national security advisor, Michael Flynn, has denied reports that he suggested a Myanmar-like coup should happen in the United States, accusing the media of twisted reporting of his comments.

There is NO reason whatsoever for any coup in America, and I do not and have not at any time called for any action of that sort, Flynn claimed on his Telegram channel on Monday.

The former US national security adviser had earlier supported the idea of a military-style coup in the US.

Flynn made the mention during a QAnon conference in Texas over the weekend, after being asked a question about the February military coup in Myanmar, according to a video which circulated online on Monday.

He said, It should happen here, after someone in the audience asked, I want to know why what happened in Myanmar can�t happen here?

The retired US Army lieutenant general, known for his unwavering support for Trump, said on Telegram that he in fact rejected the notion of a military coup as his liberal critics accused him of endorsing it in the United States.

Flynn fired back at the media for what he called a boldface fabrication based on twisting reporting at a lively panel at a conference of Patriotic Americans who love this country.

The general�s critics, however, suggested he was attempting to gaslight his way out of this, and that he was backtracking from his endorsement of a coup.

Flynn has been banned from Twitter as part of a post-January 6 riot crackdown targeting proponents of the QAnon conspiracy theory.

Flynn�s denial of his remarks at the QAnon conference comes as some of the more vocal members of the political cult have voiced support for the Myanmar coup, referring to it as an awakening and suggesting the possibility of a similar violent overthrow of the US government.

QAnon is a far right-wing, loosely organized network of believers who hold faith in various unsubstantiated beliefs. Several prominent QAnon activists were among Trump�s supporters that attacked the US Capitol building on Jan. 6.

They consider former president Trump as their hero, who has obliquely endorsed the conspiracy theory and described QAnon activists as people who love our country.

QAnon theory, which came into limelight following the deadly insurrection at the US Capitol on Jan. 6, propounded that Trump was waging a secret war against elite Satan-worshipping pedophiles in government, business and the media.

The military coup in Myanmar took place in February and led to the ouster of de-facto leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, after the military accused the National League for Democracy (NLD), led by Suu Kyi, of committing voter fraud during the November 2020 election.

The coup set off mass protests that triggered a heavy-handed deadly crackdown, which claimed the lives of more than 800 people, according to the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners.

Flynn served as national security advisor to Trump before he was charged with lying to the FBI over his contacts with Russian officials.

He was eventually pardoned by Trump in November of last year.
