Gunmen Storm Kabul University; 25 Killed
A group of gunmen--reportedly three in total--entered the Kabul University on Monday morning, sources said. Sources said the gunfight near the Kabul University happened when Afghan and Iranian officials were inaugurating a book exhibition at the university. According to sources, six people were wounded. Many students left the compound sharply after they were informed about the gunmen, a student said. Police said security forces were deployed to the attack scene.
No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.
President Ghani condemns terrorist attack on Kabul University and says terrorists are attacking academic centers after they were defeated in Helmand.
Abdullah Abdullah, head of the reconciliation council, condemns attack on Kabul University and calls it a heinous crime and says students have the right to study in peace and security.
NATO Senior Civilian Representative Stefano Pontecorvo condemns Kabul University attack and says this is the second attack on educational institutions in Kabul in 10 days and that Afghan children and youth need to feel safe going to school.
Sources said at least 25 people were killed and over 40 more were wounded in Kabul University attack. Officials have not commented on the casualties.
