China sends nine satellites into orbit at Yellow Sea
China successfully sent nine satellites into planned orbit with one carrier rocket at the Yellow Sea Tuesday.
The nine satellites, belonging to the Jilin-1 Gaofen 03-1 group, blasted off atop a Long March-11 carrier rocket, Chinas first sea-launched rocket, at 09:23. Developed by Changguang Satellite Technology Co., Ltd., the group includes three video satellites and six push-broom satellites, aiming to provide remote sensing services for Chinas land and resources census, urban planning and disaster monitoring. The launch mission, carried out by the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center, is the 346th launch of the Long March carrier rockets. The Long March-11 sea launch carrier rocket was developed and produced by China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation. This sea launch marks an important step we took in building a sea-based launch system, which is significant. The building of sea launch platforms will expand Chinas spacecraft launch areas, improve the launch efficiency, and make our spacecraft launch more flexible and safer, said Li Zongli, director of the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center.
