One person is dead and five others wounded in a shooting outside a restaurant in the US state of Illinois.

According to the Chicago Fire Department, the six victims of the shooting on Chicago�s South Side were taken to a hospital Sunday afternoon.

At least four of those injured are said to be in critical condition.

The man who died suffered a gunshot wound when someone inside a white-colored SUV drove up and fired shots.

He was dining outdoors under a tent at Lumes Pancake House in Morgan Park, when he was attacked.

American detectives were reportedly on the scene to investigate the deadly incident.

The victim died on the scene and no one was in custody.
