Israeli military says its drone crashed in Lebanon
The Israeli military says one of its drones has crashed inside the Lebanese territory during operational activities along the border. The Israeli military said in a Sunday statement there is no concern that any information was leaked from the unmanned aerial vehicle. Israeli media claim that the drone crashed after it experienced a technical failure. Earlier in the day, Lebanon said Israeli reconnaissance drones have entered the countrys airspace and flown over the southern parts of the Arab country more than two dozen times in flagrant violation of a UN Security Council resolution. The Lebanese Army said in a statement that the unmanned aerial aircraft crossed into Lebanese skies at around 5:50 a.m. local time (0250 GMT) on Friday and left at around 12 pm. They hovered over southern Lebanon and conducted 20 missions. The statement added that Israeli aircraft violated Lebanese airspace 9 times on Saturday. The latest incursions into the Lebanese airspace come as Tel Aviv has reinforced its troop presence on the northern borders of occupied territories in what Israeli media outlets claim was a response to an increased threat from Hezbollah, whose fighter was recently killed in an Israeli airstrike on Damascus. Terrified of Hezbollahs retaliation, Israel has sent a message to the Lebanese resistance movement saying that it didnt intend to kill the groups member Ali Kamel Mohsen in its recent aggression. Israels overflights have been repeatedly condemned by Lebanons government, Hezbollah resistance movement and the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). Beirut says they are in clear violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and the countrys sovereignty. UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which brokered a ceasefire in the war Israel launched against Lebanon in 2006, calls on Tel Aviv to respect Beiruts sovereignty and territorial integrity.
