IECC Registers Over 7, 000 Complaints in Two Days
The Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) registered over 7,000 complaints over the past two days from campaign teams following the announcement of the preliminary election results on Sunday, a member of the electoral body said. Mainly three campaign teams--State Builder led by Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, Stability and Convergence led by Abdullah Abdullah and Islamic Security and Justice led by Gulbuddin Hekmatyar - have lodged complaints with the IECC offices in Kabul and other provinces. There might be some changes in the results. Either it will go up or down if we get between 7,000 to 8,000 complaints, the deputy head of the IECC, Din Mohammad Azimi, said. He rejected the rumors that the election will go to a second round after complaints are addressed. Another member of the commission, Qutbuddin Roidar, said the votes from 1,100 polling stations might be recounted. Considering the preparations of other election campaign teams, it seems that the number of complaints will increase, he added. Monitoring organizations called for a thorough assessment of the complaints. Our complaints are up to 6,000 and we hope that all of them are addressed, said Fraidoon Khwazoon, a spokesman for Abdullahs team. We have divided the complaints into three categories, said Aref Kayani, a member of Hekmatyars team. The complaints registration will end on Wednesday, according to IECC, and the assessment of the complaints will take up to 39 working days.
